Broadly speaking, inclusive cities starts by enabling access to the city. It however, goes beyond presence and entails access to facilities and services of the city and the ability to engage with the city as a whole. As such inclusivity entails spatial, social and economic access for all.

Claudia Loggia, Judith Ojo-Aromokudu and Christina Georgiadou were delighted to attend theIS OCARP conference in Durban this week. They presented two papers: ‘An overview of top-down vs bottom-up models of informal settlement upgrading in South Africa’, and ‘”Normal” Informal living spaces in low-income human settlements in South Africa’.
